The process of introducing colour into fabric, is one of great appeal and science. Tapping into this boundless array of dyes, I have played around with the different types of dyes, such as Direct dyes, Vat dyes, Natural dyes, Reactive dyes, Acid dyes and so on.
A collection of shibori and clamp dyeing techniques, explored using both direct and vat dyes. The countless results one can get using these methods os fascinating.
Indigo dyeing, I believe, is one of the most wonderful dyeing processes. The various hues of blue, and the transition across the fabric, manipulated by clamps and thread, is striking. The results after oxidation are breathtaking.
I was extremely interested in clamp dyeing, and the various results it could produce. I took this forward, and dyed two sarees, of mull fabric. Taking inspiration from the shape of a peacock feather, the pallu of the two sarees have been dyed using vat colours.
